Optimum Skills are proud to be working closely with a number of joinery and building contractors, who are looking to recruit reliable Apprentice Joiners across North Tyneside and surrounding areas.
This role offers the opportunity to learn the skills required to become a qualified joiner while working on live construction sites. Apprentices will work alongside experienced tradespeople, developing practical joinery skills and supporting a range of building works, while working towards a Level 2 Joiner Apprenticeship Standard.
As part of the apprenticeship, you will complete both on-site employment and off-the-job training, which is delivered through structured training blocks, practical workshops, and assessments at our Gateshead centre, alongside real site experience.
Main Duties Will Include:
- Assisting with the construction, installation, and repair of doors, windows, stairs, and furniture
- Supporting structural and finish carpentry tasks on new builds, extensions, and renovations
- Cutting, shaping, and assembling wood and other materials under supervision
- Preparing materials and using hand and power tools safely
- Keeping the site clean, tidy, and safe at all times
- Working safely and following all health and safety requirements
Joinery Skills You Will Learn:
- Measuring, marking out, and cutting timber accurately
- Assembling and installing joinery components to drawings and specifications
- Using hand and power tools safely and effectively
- Checking measurements, alignment, and fit
- Working under supervision to produce high-quality joinery work
Qualification Information:
- This role leads into a Level 2 Joiner Apprenticeship, typically completed over 18–24 months
- Apprentices complete off-the-job training as part of the apprenticeship, which includes:
- Practical joinery workshops
- Classroom learning
- Ongoing assessments and reviews
- All off-the-job training is delivered at our central facility in Gateshead, alongside site-based work
