Optimum Skills are proud to be working closely with a number of roofing contractors, who are looking to recruit reliable Apprentice Roofers across North Tyneside and surrounding areas.
This role offers the opportunity to learn the skills required to become a qualified roofer while working on live construction sites. Apprentices will work alongside experienced tradespeople, developing practical roofing skills and supporting a range of building works, while working towards a Level 2 Roofing Apprenticeship Standard.
As part of the apprenticeship, you will complete both on-site employment and off-the-job training, which is delivered through structured training blocks, practical workshops, and assessments at our Gateshead centre, alongside real site experience.
Main Duties Will Include:
- Assisting with the installation, repair, and maintenance of pitched and flat roofs
- Supporting work with slates, tiles, and roofing membranes
- Preparing materials and handling equipment safely on site
- Helping with scaffolding setup and maintaining safe working environments
- Keeping the site clean, tidy, and safe at all times
- Working safely and following all health and safety requirements
Roofing Skills You Will Learn:
- Measuring, cutting, and fixing roof coverings accurately
- Installing gutters, flashings, and roof insulation
- Working at heights safely using ladders, scaffolds, and fall protection equipment
- Inspecting roof structures and learning basic repair techniques
- Following drawings, specifications, and guidance from supervisors
Qualification Information:
- This role leads into a Level 2 Roofing Apprenticeship, typically completed over 18–24 months
- Apprentices complete off-the-job training as part of the apprenticeship, which includes:
- Practical roofing workshops
- Classroom learning
- Ongoing assessments and reviews
- All off-the-job training is delivered at our central facility in Gateshead, alongside site-based work
