Job Summary
As an Apprentice Lifeguard, you will play a key role in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all pool users. You'll learn how to maintain high standards of supervision and customer service, and you'll receive full training - including obtaining a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) — while working towards a recognised apprenticeship qualification in leisure operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise swimming pools and surrounding areas to ensure the safety of users at all times Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies, providing first aid or lifesaving assistance as required
Set up and pack away equipment for pool sessions and classes
Set up and Take downs in the sports hall, badminton, basketball etc
Setting up and taking down sports equipment (e.g., badminton courts, basketball hoops) in the sports hall
Engage positively with members of the public, providing help and information as needed Participate in regular training sessions to maintain lifeguarding skills and fitness Follow safeguarding and risk management procedures at all times
Complete on-the-job and off-the-job learning as part of the apprenticeship program
Requirements:
Essential:
- Strong swimmer (able to swim 100 metres continuously on front and back and to tread water for at least 30 seconds)
- Willingness to train for and achieve the NPLQ (National Pool Lifeguard Qualification)
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to the role
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
Desirable:
- Interest in health, fitness, or aquatic activities
- Previous voluntary or part-time experience in a leisure or sports environment
Training and Qualifications:
- National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ)
- Level 2 Leisure Team Member Apprenticeship (or equivalent)
- Ongoing training in first aid, customer service, and leisure operations
